Interestingly, it begins in the year 2073, although I cannot recall anything in the book that introduces any technology or dramatic changes that require making it happen in the far future. The Last Man is an early post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Mary Shelley, which was first published in 1826. Anyone who becomes perturbed by her barely perceptible, evanescent, "intonations" that sometimes occur at the end of her sentences should have their head examined. This includes the Google proxies that are used by Chrome. Being a lover of lexicography and etymology – but certainly not expert – i love listening to books with "dense/archaic vocabulary".
